Hung Advances to Championship Match at SDSU Fall Classic

 SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The University of Utah women’s tennis team has completed day two of tournament play at the SDSU Fall Classic. The Utes competed in the second round of doubles and singles, with sophomore Lindsay Hung advancing to the finals of the red bracket.
In Hung’s match up today in the semifinal round of the ‘Red’ bracket, Hung defeated Grand Canyon’s Celia Morel in three sets. Hung dropped the first set, 4-6, but cruised to a second-set victory, 6-0. Hung advanced to the finals after winning the third set, 6-3. Hung will face off against Tamara Arnold from SDSU tomorrow morning in the championship match of the ‘Red’ draw.
Starting the day off with doubles play, the duo of Katya Hersh and Lindsay Hung carded a victory in the consolation semifinal round of the ‘Red’ bracket, defeating CSUN’s Jolene Coetzee/Ana Fraile Toboso, 6-3. The Utes will play against Grand Canyon’s Janna Weiss/Natasha Puehse tomorrow for the consolation final.
In the ‘White’ bracket of doubles, Jasmine Rich and Anya Lamoreaux fell short of a victory against Mia Smith/Abbie Mulbarger from SDSU, 6-1. Rich and Lamoreaux will play again tomorrow morning against SDSU’s Julia Jordan/Tamara Arnold on the final day of action. Madison McKay will also play in a consolation match tomorrow with her partner Marija Mastilovic from McNeese State in the ‘Black’ bracket, as they will match up against Stella Carra/Hanna Blinouskaya from McNesse State.
In singles, Hersh squared off with Nnena Nadozie from SDSU in the semifinal round of the ‘Black’ bracket and fell short with a score of 1-6, 1-6. Hersh will be in action again tomorrow as she will play in a consolation match against Erandi Martinez from UTEP. 
Lamoreaux advanced in the ‘White’ bracket of singles with a dominant performance against Jana Weiss from GCU in the consolation semifinal round, scoring 6-1, 6-1, to move into the finals. Lamoreaux will match up against Ana Fraile Toboso from CSUN tomorrow in the final round of the consolation bracket. 
In the ‘Gold’ flight of singles, Rich dropped her match against McNesse State’s Sofia San Jose Moreno, falling short in a competitive match 4-6, 6-7 (5). Rich will continue tomorrow with a consolation match against Grand Canyon’s Martina Lo Pumo. 
McKay saw action against Dalia Ahmed in a non-flighted match and fell 6-0, 6-1. McKay will meet GCU’s Autumn Prudhomme in the ‘Gray’ bracket for her final singles match of the tournament. 
The University of Utah women’s tennis team will finish play tomorrow at the SDSU Fall Classic beginning at 9 a.m. PT.
