TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Tuskegee University will officially open the 2019-20 basketball season on Thursday, Oct. 14 with Skegee Madness. The event will take place inside the Daniel “Chappie” James Center at 8:30 p.m.
Doors will open at 8:00 p.m. and will feature performances from the Marching Crimson Pipers, introduction of this year’s cheerleaders, dance team and the men’s and women’s basketball squads.. The players will display their skills throughout the night in several contests, highlighted by a slam dunk competition, a three point contest and a team-up challenge.
Taylor is in his first season as TU’s head coach after spending the last three years as an assistant coach at California State University, Bakersfield, where under his leadership, the ‘Runners posted a winning record of 55-34. Powell enters her second season as head coach of the women after producing the school’s best record in 19 years, finishing with a 20-6 overall mark, the program’s first 20-win season since 2000. TU also advanced to the semi-finals of the conference tournament and ended the year with a 13-3 league record.
The Golden Tigers open its exhibition season in women’s hoops Oct. 29 in Atlanta against Sun Belt Conference opponent, Georgia State while the men’s team will play a pair of exhibition games on the road (Campbell University and Faulkner University) Oct. 18 and Nov. 7 respectively.
